Proposed Bazo Says: The Unaffordable Health Care Act

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  The Unaffordable Health Care Act

The last column I wrote for my previous employer was called Mediscare in which I outlined how unaffordable The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was. Of course, being just a cab driver (actually a company owner), and only high school educated, what did I know? The same holds true when I describe our government in Washington (both parties) as the ruling class. I was referred to as a "grassy knoll" believer in conspiracies. As usual, I was right, not my critics.

On June 13, Politico ran a story titled “Obamacare? We were just leaving.”

 The article proved my assertions true. The Affordable Care Act is so unaffordable, that members of Congress and their aides are quitting because they can't afford it!  So, they are in discussions about exempting themselves from it. This, even though the legislation says that they cannot. It is right there in the Grassley Amendment, which said the government can only offer members of Congress and their staff plans that are 'created' in the bill or 'offered through an exchange'—unless the bill is amended. Looks like the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was right when she said, "We will have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it."

Here is how it works in Washington's ruling class now.  Aides and lawmakers receive their health care under the generous Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. I say generous because you, the tax payer, subsidizes 75 percent of the premiums for those health insurance plans. However, under Obamacare, the law requires medium-sized and large employers to offer what it calls “affordable” coverage or face fines. The definition of “affordable” can mean premiums up to 9.5 percent of an employee's income. So roughly, when this law kicks in, 9.5 percent of what you earn will be going to health care costs. That is if your employer keeps their private coverage.  Remember this is after FICA taxes, not in lieu of them. So for the employer it is not 9.5 percent, but 21 percent with FICA included. Is it any wonder that last week IBM in Dutchess County announced they are laying off 600 employees? Mark my words, more and more of these "big" corporations AND smaller businesses will be laying-off workers, or cutting back their hours to avoid this nasty increase in the cost of employment.

Back to the ruling class...

Unlike these private sector businesses, Congress has the ability to exempt itself. The current salary for 2013 rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 a year, AND they say they can't afford Affordable Health Care! My heart bleeds purple panther pee over their dilemma.
According to the Politico article, it is mostly Democrats (I am not making this up) who are contemplating this exemption! These same damned Democrats who helped shove this bill down our throats this—with the Grassley Amendment included—now want out!

Now, if one making $174,000 a year says this law is unaffordable, how about those making $20,000 or $30,000.00 a year? How the hell are they going to afford it? They are not! Here is where my conspiratorial alter ego comes in. This is not by accident, but by design. It was designed to be unaffordable for an increasing number of people so that they panic. Then when they figure out they can't afford health care they start raising holy hell about that.

That sets the stage for our maters to begin single payer, which was the end game all along. Obama said as much in an address to a group of union members before he was president. Ladies and gentlemen, we have been played, and just wait until our ruling class members exempt themselves. You on the other hand, can go pound salt.

The reality is we deserve this. As an electorate, we now use emotion rather than logic when deciding who to vote for. Many on the left turn their politicians into idols, as they did with Obama. You can actually show them a video of Obama saying something, and if they do not like it, they will tell you he did not just say what he just said, and then call you a racist and storm off—with their COEXIST bumper stickers on their cars.

The name for these types of people? Useful idiots.

This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says: KATZ'S "PURRR"FECT VOTE

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  KATZ'S "PURRR"FECT VOTE:

"State Assemblyman and Yorktown resident Steve Katz,  recently voted for a bill to legalize medicinal marijuana as well as for a bill to decriminalize public possession of small amounts of marijuana.
Speaking Monday on the Assembly floor in Albany, Katz cited further research into the subject as the reason for his vote change on medicinal marijuana. He also added that his mother’s own spinal illness has changed his thinking on the issue.

“In my district, I heard some heartbreaking stories from friends who have had loved ones forced to contend with unimaginable pain,” Katz wrote in a letter to Yorktown News. “From experts, I learned of many ways that cannabinoid treatments can help assuage many ailments that current medicine doesn’t effectively treat. After hearing their concerns and support for this piece of legislation, I decided that this year, when the bill came up for a vote, I would support it.”

From a story in last weeks Yorktown News

MY TWO CENTS:

According to recent local editorials, Katz's was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.  He first voted earlier this year against this legislation.  He was by these same editorial boards castigated for this vote.  A lot of this anamnesis resulted from a traffic stop that made headlines.  Katz commented at the time that when the facts came out, he would be vindicated of those accusations.  Turned out he would be correct.

Yet in stories and editorials relating  about his change of heart regarding this legislation,  I have read mention the original traffic stop, not the final result.  You see in media, it is the original nasty that counts.  If the conclusion differs from the original nasty, it is to be ignored. Oh, they will tell you that the conclusion was reported, however as you are seeing, in any subsequent coverage, it will be the original coverage that will be mentioned.  The consequence of this is that if Katz decides to run again, you will be deluged with mailers that will include cut and paste the headlines from the original stories.

So a second vote on this legislation comes to the Assembly floor and Katz votes for it.  He does this as he explains above,  he revisited this issue and did more homework and this research concluded a  change of  mind was necessary.  You see when a change of facts occur, you are allowed to alter your opinion.

EXCEPT if you are a Republican or worse a Conservative.  Then you motives must have a nefarious self-serving reason.  Instead of being applauded for his due diligence, he is excoriated for his vote.  The joke is those excoriating him are in favor of this legislation.  If Katz were a Democrat, he would have been applauded and said to have evolved.

Knowing Steve Katz as I do, I take him at his word on why he changes his mind.  So should you.  The problem will be in the Senate where compassion for the suffering is in short supply.  You will be told as the Governor who is also against this has said, the fear of possible  abuse is more important than the reality of the suffering that is happening as you read this. This is of course a canard.  It masks the real reason, and this is the fear of losing votes of the uneducated who believe pot, unlike alcohol is a tool of the devil.

If possible or actual abuse were the real reason then we should bring back prohibition. We should mandate all automobiles have a top speed of 20 miles an hour.  That's just for starters. If our Governor and Senate representatives do not have the compassion for the sick and dying, then there is a place in hell reserved for them.  One does not put the fear of what might be, over the reality of what is!

Assemblyman Steve Katz is right.  The Senate should pass this. The Governor should sign this.  This is what I say, what say you.

Bazzo Says: Democrats Win The War On Women

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Democrats Win The War On Women

The key  to a magicians success is effective distraction.  They keep you busy watching one thing while they are doing something else.  The same goes for most politicians.  Except, they distract you with the illusion of doing something really meaningful while in reality they are doing nothing.  Add this to their contempt for your intelligence and you have our Governor's latest sleight of hand.

Here is Cuomo's   Women's Equality Agenda:

  • preventing housing discrimination against victims of domestic violence (A. 6411);
  • prohibiting workplace discrimination against pregnant mothers (A. 6410);
  • creating an affirmative defense for victims of sex trafficking with harsher penalties for those convicted of sex trafficking (A. 6409);
  • affording military spouses more opportunities to obtain New York licensing in reduced time in order to join the work force more quickly (A. 7596);
  • stricter penalties for unlawful wage discrimination (A. 6407)
  •  abortion bill  that would "codify federal law."
  • creating a zero tolerance policy across New York in regards to sexual harassment (A.6408); and

With existing federal and state laws, I have no idea where in New York the first five items are an issue except as an effort to distract you from the real issue of a leadership that has no problem with covering up sexual harassment as long as that cover up is not found out.  That is why the last item is a joke.

In brief, Assemblyman Vito Lopez, now resigned from the Assembly, over a period of time engaged in the harassment of his female employees.  When two came forward and complained to the Assembly Leader

Shelodon Silver, he quietly paid them off with tax dollars.  He did not inform the ethics committee which by law he was required to do.  In fact both the State Comptroller and the State Attorney General signed off on the deal and the checks were cut.

This enabled the Assemblyman's  harassing two more women.  Two women who would not have been subjected to this lech, if existing law had been followed.  This is how this cover up came to light, the last two went public. There was an investigation that was a sham.  The investigators were not allowed to investigate the cover up.  Only the Assemblyman.  Sure, the report detailed the cover up, but assigned no blame.  The Governor had two positions.  One: That what the Assembly Leader did was not as bad as what the Assemblyman did.  Two: he would not go after the Assembly Leader in order to protect his (the Governor's) agenda.

There has been a dirth of silence  by all the leading women's right groups and women of the Assembly.   Why the right's groups?  Easy, they receive a lot of tax dollars.  The protection of that gravy train, like the Governor's agenda was more important than what happened to those two women who would not have been subjected to harassment had the laws been followed.

As for the Assemblywomen, they were thrown a bone and allowed to have a breakfast with  the Assembly Leader and call him dirty names behind closed doors.  They are going to see what comes next in the way of reform.  However they are not going to call for a new leader.

As long as the Governor, the women of the Assembly (also the men) and women's right groups all behave in the manor that the cover up was not worse than the crime,  when it comes to the above legislation, none have any credibility.  The sad thing in all of this, as long as the Governor, the Attorney General, the Comptroller, and Assembly Leader are Democrats, women (and men) will vote for them.

In your heart of hearts, you know that if any were Republican or worse, Conservative, all of the enable's would want their heads on a platter.  You would have heard the common refrain, "Republican's war on women".  Here is a reality check.  As long as the present leadership in Albany remains, for all intents and purpose, women lost that war, and not to Republicans.  This is what I say, what say you?
